No License? No Problem!
Curious about ham radio? At PARC’s ARRL Field Day, anyone can get on the air! Talk to hams across the U.S. and beyond under the guidance of our licensed members. You’ll operate using the club’s N4POW call sign and a control operator’s privileges, no license required. Even Technician licensees can enjoy HF bands here!
PARC Winter Field Day
Winter Field Day is more than a competition. It is a chance to build emergency communication skills by setting up temporary stations and operating in winter weather. Freezing temperatures, snow, and ice create unique challenges that help us prepare for real emergencies.
We will be at the large shelter in Fighting Creek Park, operating on battery power. Two end-fed half-wave antennas will be used for HF and a J-pole for VHF and UHF. One HF antenna is for the Bring Your Own Radio station, so bring your own HF radio and plug in. The other will use a Yaesu FT-710.
One hour time slots are first come, first served. Sign up today and join the fun.

Hot Radios and Even Hotter Expressos!
Even if the weather turns cold, you will stay cozy in our heated operating area with fresh cappuccinos made right on site. Club members can enjoy a hot lunch on Saturday and Sunday while everyone is welcome to stop by, warm up, and join the fun.

From Powhatan to Puerto Rico!
In 2025, our antennas reached from Virginia to Brazil and England. The objective was to set up our stations, operate in winter conditions, and make successful contacts less than ideal conditions. Can you beat last year’s record?

Bring your own Radio, Use Our Antenna
If you want to operate your own radio or learn more about how it works, bring it along and connect to our pre-tuned 10–80 meter end-fed half-wave antenna with a PL-259 connector.
You can use your own battery, or we will provide one for you. Just make sure your radio can operate on battery power.
Where to Find Us
The PARC Field Day is held in the large shelter at Fighting Creek Park, 2505 Mann Road, Powhatan VA. The park normally closes at 8 PM, but we secure permission to remain in the park for the entire event. Restrooms are just a few steps away from the Field Day site.
